NAMI Acadiana is the only organization providing support and education for individuals with a mental illness and their families. Our membership is made up of family members, peers, behavioral health professionals, and friends. Our "staff" consists of dedicated volunteers who have the lived experience giving them a unique ability to provide assistance. NAMI Acadiana is dedicated to eradicating the stigma, myths, and misconceptions of mental illnesses, to improving the quality of life for all who are affected by these illnesses, to advocating for better mental health care and to supporting recovery. It is dedicated to serving our community by empowering peers and families and promoting meaningful systems change. We love to provide educational information at health fairs and community events. On our website you will see 1. the two support groups that are provided - the Family Support Group and the Connection Recovery Support Group for individuals living with a mental condition and 2. the education classes provided - mainly the 12 session Family to Family class and the 6 session Basics class for parents and family caretakers of children and teens who have symptoms of or have been diagnosed with a mental disorder. All of our programs are offered free to the participants. Our financial support depends entirely on the generosity of donors in our community. May is Mental Health Awareness month so we are even more excited for this opportunity to let others know of what we offer through SOLAGivingDay!
