Match Challenge Donations: $539,000 Match Dollars Secured

Many generous donors have given what's called a "Match Challenge" to several organizations participating in South Louisiana Giving Day. More than $450,000 in match challenge donations have been secured for 37 organizations. A match challenge allows an organization to double their donations through South Louisiana Giving Day. A donor can schedule a contribution to help these organizations win their match today through Thursday, May 10.

Shaquille O’Neal Donates $20,000 to Support Lafayette High School through SOLA Giving Day

 

Lafayette, LA – NBA superstar and LSU legend Shaquille “Shaq” O’Neal scheduled a $20,000 donation to support Lafayette High School (LHS) through South Louisiana (SOLA) Giving Day.

After making the announcement, O’Neal sent Rob Pool, head coach of the Lafayette High School Football program, a video with words of encouragement. 

“Hello mighty Lion boosters of Lafayette, “O’Neal said. “I wanna wish you well with your fundraiser, but I may have a surprise for you. I’ll let you know. All you Lafayette High guys, students, work hard. You can be whatever you want to be. Alright. I’ll talk to you soon. Bye, bye.”

LHS is raising funds to remodel its weight room. The cost of the project is $42,000. Lafayette Parish School System has given the school a $21,000 matching donation through the SOLA Giving Day event. O’Neal contributed to the matching challenge with his $20,000 donation.

“Shaq gave us a jump start in our fundraising efforts,” said Pool. “When I got here two years ago, there were a lot of things I wanted to fix. I want to give the students a first class experience, but remodeling the weight room was at the bottom of the list because of the renovation cost. Shaq and our school board are making this a realistic goal for us.”

Matching Donations Grow to $531,500 through South Louisiana Giving Day
South Louisiana Giving Day Donations Could Reach $1M

South Louisiana Giving Day will be held on Thursday, May 10

 

LAFAYETTE, LA - South Louisiana (SOLA) Giving Day, an event of Community Foundation of Acadiana (CFA), will be held on Thursday, May 10 beginning at midnight and ending at 11:59:59 p.m.
More than 130 Acadiana nonprofit organizations, churches and schools are participating in this 24-hour, online fundraising event. These organization provide and assist with many community services and interests such as domestic abuse and mental illness awareness, community improvement initiatives, education, arts, music, youth leadership and development, homelessness, senior citizen care and animal welfare. Many of these organizations rely on the community’s generosity and support.
 
Using a debit or a credit card, donors can make a contribution to support their favorite participating organization at www.SouthLouisianaGivingDay.org.
 
Donors who would like to make a contribution using a traditional check must drop off their check to Community Foundation of Acadiana located at 1035 Camellia Boulevard, Suite 100, Lafayette on May 10. Checks should be made payable to CFA, and donors should write the name of the organization in the memo.
 
CFA fund owners can request an inter-fund transfer grant from their Community Foundation of Acadiana Fund. A request can be made by emailing Lauren Breaux at lbreaux@cfacadiana.org. In the email, please include your name, your fund name, the donation amount, and the name of the organization you are supporting.
 
Currently, $531,500 have been secured to support 37 organizations through the SOLA Giving Day matching donation program. A matching donation is a charitable donation by private donors that will match the general public’s donations dollar for dollar. Donations can be made today through May 10 by visiting www.SouthLouisianaGivingDay.org.

The Church Academy Receives $50,000 Matching Grant Earmarked for South Louisiana Giving Day

LAFAYETTE, LA - William C. Schumacher Family Foundation awards a $50,000 matching grant to The Church Academy, an affiliate of Bridge Ministry of Acadiana. The matching grant award supports Bridge Ministry of Acadiana’s capital campaign through the South Louisiana (SOLA) Giving Day on May 10.  The capital campaign raises funds for The Church Academy’s facility, afterschool care and scholarship needs. Bridge Ministry of Acadiana empowers the under-resourced and promotes social responsibility, offering programs to adults and to students ranging from 4th to 12th grade. The organization aims to evoke change through spiritual transformation, education and neighborhood revitalization.

Moncus Park Announces Generous Match for All Donations on South Louisiana Giving Day

Lafayette, LA - Moncus Park is participating in a new regional day of philanthropy called South Louisiana Giving Day and is excited to announce a generous match will be made for all donations! Every dollar given to the organization on or before May 10, 2018, will be doubled dollar for dollar, up to $30,000, by an anonymous benefactor.

Construction of Phase 1 of Moncus Park began in March, so this match provides the opportunity for donors to double their impact during this exciting time in Acadiana’s history. The first phase of development will be focused within the front 60 acres of the 100-acre park property and will include walking paths, a pond, gardens, tree houses, a kayak launch, an off-leash dog park, a mini-golf course, a Farmers Market Pavilion, and more.

“We wouldn’t be here without the generosity of Acadiana families and businesses, and it’s such an exciting time to donate to Moncus Park," said Elizabeth “EB” Brooks, executive director of Moncus Park. "We are so honored to be offered the opportunity to double everyone’s donations over the next month with this generous match, since it will help make each individual contribution twice as impactful in the park’s future,” she said.

Lafayette Central Park, Inc. is the non-profit tasked with planning, building, and operating a new community park called “Moncus Park" on the former “UL Horse Farm” property. LCP tapped into the spirit of Acadiana by gathering over 7,400 citizens’ ideas and visions for the future of the park. Acadian Ambulance CEO Donates $50,000 Matching Donation Through South Louisiana Giving Day to Support St. Pius Elementary Students
 LAFAYETTE, LA – Elaine and Richard Zuschlag of Lafayette have made a matching donation of $50,000 through South 
 Louisiana (SOLA) Giving Day to support the St. Pius Monsignor Richard von Phul Mouton Scholarship Fund. The couple is   encouraging the community to match their donation and fundraise an additional $50,000 for the scholarship fund by 
 visiting  www.southlouisianagivingday.org/stpius. The fund will provide scholarships to students who attend St. Pius Elementary
 School in Lafayette.
 
 The St. Pius Monsignor Richard von Phul Mouton Scholarship Fund has been established as a lasting tribute to Monsignor Mouton to encourage families of St. Pius X Church Parish to give their children the gift of Catholic education. The scholarship will be awarded annually to parishioners of St. Pius X Church Parish who are actively involved in ministries of the church, dedicated to family faith formation and are leaders in ministry and service.
 
"Monsignor Mouton was a great friend and mentor to the Zuschlag Family," said Richard Zuschlag, chief executive officer of Acadian Ambulance Service. "He was a strong advocate for the improvement and expansion of catholic education in our diocese. My family is honored to build upon his legacy by partnering with St. Pius Elementary School to establish the Monsignor Richard von Phul Mouton Scholarship Fund," he said.
